What’s the status of the Jumbo Resort?
There’s lots going on with Jumbo Wild — here’s the latest:
The Environmental Certificate for the JGR was cancelled in June 2015. One year later, this decision still stands. As of today, GRL has no legal right to carry out construction in the Jumbo Valley. Glacier Resorts filed a judicial review in December of 2015 to challenge this decision – this case has not yet been heard in court.
The Ktunaxa Nation’s legal case will be heard in the Supreme Court of Canada in December 2016. They allege the approval of the Jumbo Glacier Resort infringes on their Charter Rights and Religious Freedoms because Qat’muk is sacred territory. Read more here and support their efforts to quash Jumbo here.
We continue to take the message to Keep Jumbo Wild to the masses, asking people to sign our petition asking Premier Clark to honour the Ktunaxa Nation’s Qat’muk Declaration by creating permanent protection for the spiritual and ecological values of the Jumbo Valley. We plan to deliver the petition in Fall 2016 and Sign the petition here.
