Local Government Officials Target Jumbo: UBCM Unanimously Opposes Provincial Funding of Empty Towns

Today, the Union of BC Municipalities unanimously passed a motion opposing provincial funding of municipalities without residents. Delegates representing municipalities across British Columbia voted unanimously to urge the Province of BC to stop funding towns without a population. Put forward by Invermere Mayor Gerry Taft, the resolution is directed at the Jumbo Glacier Mountain Resort Municipality: "THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that UBCM inform the Province of British Columbia that they are strongly opposed to the funding of any municipalities without residents." East-West Jumbo Hike Celebrates the Wild Jumbo Valley

Upwards of 100 hikers from the East and West Kootenays, infants to octogenarians, converged at various points in time at the Jumbo Pass hut on Saturday, September 20 to celebrate the wild Jumbo Valley. The popular annual hike, organized by Wildsight and the West Kootenay EcoSociety, attracted wilderness fans from Invermere, Cranbrook, Kimberley, Nelson, Kaslo, Argenta and coincided with the splendour of the autumn larches.
